Salt Lake City Half Marathon!

The SLC Half Marathon is on April 19th.  On the Ragnar training schedule, we are supposed to run 12 miles on this date anyway.  Why not run an extra mile and get a T-shirt and medal for it? I'm planning on signing up for it. Is anybody else interested? Cost right now is $55.
This will be a good motivator for me to kick it up another notch or two as I played basketball in the morning 3 times this week(NCAA tourney gave me the itch) instead of running. I only ran the 7-miles on Tuesday but do plan on running the 12 tomorrow. I noticed that there is a "clydesdale" category as well for guys over 200 lbs. if that's any extra motivation to run it.

Practice run???

I talked to Brady yesterday about going and running the actual legs assigned to us one of these weekends.  Anybody interested in doing that? It'd be a great way to see how close we are to running our legs in our given times. I'd like to do it as well so I can run my middle leg in the middle of the day and not the middle of the night like I have to for the actual thing.

Let me know if anybody's interested.

REFUGEE sighting!!!

I ran into one of the Ragnar Refugees during my 10-miler on Saturday. I can't remember his name, but he lives in Draper. Also, he's the guy who will be in bus 1 and has some running experience. I didn't recognize him at the time, but it hit me afterwards who it was. Anybody remember his name??

Also, my 10-miler was easier than my 6 mile-run i make to the Draper temple because it was flat. i didn't realize how bad the hills wear ya out.

Are we going to be meeting again soon?

I made it 6 miles last night!

So after a few set backs in my running life last week, I was able to get in 6 miles last night. Felt pretty good but I can tell I've got a lot of work to do.

Mosiah 4:27

Here's another great scripture that talks about the necessity of proper preparation in order to win "the prize".  King B. Rocks!

27:  And see that all these things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength.  And again it is expedient that he be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore, all things must be done in wisdom and order.

1 Corinthians 9:24

"Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain."

The posts have slowed!!

So either everyone is too busy running or just the opposite, and hence the lack of posts. I will be honest and say that I have been pretty busy and haven't ran since last Friday. I did play basketball last night so atleast I had some form of cardio. The weather is getting nicer and I can't wait to run outside again.

I hate Daylight Savings

Say hello to ma lil friend!!! This daylight saving BS has me back on the treadmill this week and it blows!!!!! 3 1/2 miles into my run on the treadmill I jumped off and tried to finish outside(cuz it was finally light enough). The problem was, the wind was blowing like crazy and it was a temperature change of 50 degrees which freaked my body out. So I didn't even run 4 miles today and was supposed to get 6. Somehow, the weight keeps coming off though.

9 miler tomorrow....

So 7 miles was my personal record, but that will be displaced tomorrow (Saturday) when I run 9 miles in good old Cedar City Utah! Anyone care to join me? So today is rest day so I can actually be recovered enough to run tomorrow... What is everyone else doing tomorrow?

This book has good running tips and training schedules.

If any of you are looking for another book on running to add to your collection, here is a book that I have used in the past.

No gum= better breathing

Since I've been training for Ragnar I've always had a piece of Extra Spearmint gum in my mouth. I noticed every couple of minutes that I was getting a bunch of gunk in the back of my throat and that spitting it out was quite the chore when you're trying to keep your breathing in line. I found myself catching my breath after this heroic feat.
So last week I cut down to a half a piece of gum which helped, but I still had the problem. This morning, about 2 miles into the jog I spit the gum out and wanted to see how the next 4 miles went. It was the best 4 mile stretch I've ever ran in my life! My mouth didn't dry out like I had worried and I was able to keep my breathing pattern the way it should be instead of hawking up gum-goo every minute or two.

This morning I ran 6 miles(outside) in 55 minutes which is a personal best for me. Back on February 16th it took me 66 minutes to run the same distance on the straight, flat treadmill. So I've went from an 11-minute mile(treadmill) to an almost 9-minute mile(outside) based on a 6 mile run in about 17 days.

I'm stoked about my progress and hope it continues. I would encourage you guys to keep track of how long it's taking you to run so that you can measure your progress. Had I not been tracking this I would have no idea how much I've improved over the last month.

Dumb and Dumber...

So my Saturday run was a bust and so was this morning's run. Saturday morning the wind was blowing so hard I could hardly run.  It kept blowing my headphone buds out of my ears! About 2 miles into my hamstrings cramped up. My Dumb Arse decided to work out my legs Friday morning instead of run. So I squatted and did work on my quads and hamstrings. Dumb dumb dumb! I ended up only running about 4 miles all together on Saturday instead of 7. I was still sore all day yesterday and looked forward to running this morning.
But, yesterday at church we discovered that 2 of my 3 kids had pink eye. The only reason this affected me running this morning is that I was up most of the night with my 2 year old daughter as she kept waking up and crying. The sleep I did get was on the floor in her bedroom. So I didn't run this morning either. So I'll get to do the afternoon jog or the treadmill late tonight after the kids are in bed.  Somehow, I still weighed 2 1/2 pounds less this morning than last Monday morning.

So I've went from 200 pounds on Feb. 4th to 195 lbs. on  March 3rd. If I could lose 5 pounds each month until the race, I could drop almost 25 pounds.  That's all the motivation I need to stay true to the training.

Get yo Run On Fools!!

p.s. I apologize for the epistle. This weekend just really sucked. Did anybody get a good run in over the weekend?
