Training

Hey everyone. I ran 5 miles this morning still doing a 10 min mile pace. I ran a 9 minute mile pace for a portion, but also walked some so it still averaged 50 min.

I am not following either training schedules and wonder if I should. I am prob more a novice than intermediate, but running just 15 min a day seems too little. Where running everyday 4-7 miles seems too much. (I need 3 days off)

I have also ran sprints once and have not cross trained at all.

What should I be doing for training? Any suggestions?

Well, I'm certainly one of the least qualified to be dispensing advice, but if I were you I would stick to the Ragnar training program, but if you want to switch it up a little like these marathon training programs, make the first one an easier pace, the second one of them sprint pace, the third one cross training. Maybe have your rest day only on weeks where you have a really long run or something, and have it be the day before or the day after...

That's the way that the Team in Training does things (the nation-wide running team that my wife is running with for the half marathon with a running coach and everything) --and I feel really good for those long runs.

Pibe, everyone is a little different but you gotta find what works for you. I like craigs suggestion, but also you have to listen to your body. If you feel good keep going and vise versa. At the same time, you've always gotta be pushing yourself just a little more. There is a guy by the last name of Galloway (I think) he has a pretty good training book. I'll see if I can find it online and post it. If I were you I would shoot for 12-15 miles/week. Then each week bump it up a mile or two. So then if you take a day off it's cool as long as you get your 12-15 miles/ week in and so on. Make any sense? Anyway, call me if you wanna chat about it.
